Shackles - general information
Shackles are most commonly used in lifting systems as a final, interchangeable connector used to connect wire, chain, rope slings, various fittings, and accessories. The use of shackles allows for easy replacement of damaged steel wire or chain. They provide durability and secure connections, which is why they are mainly used where a safe and reliable connection of various components is required, e.g. in transportation, construction, shipping, and the machinery industry.
They are usually cast or forged from ordinary or stainless steel.
The following types of shackles are distinguished:
Shackles with a bolt-type pin, usually used for temporary connections
Shackles with a nut and a securing split pin, mainly used for long-term connections allowing the pin to rotate under load.
Straight shackles (also known as chain shackles) mainly used in single-leg systems.
Round shackles (also known as anchor shackles) are mainly used in multi-leg systems. Due to their curved shape, this connection is characterized by greater flexibility.
